Misleading Statements and Outright Lies

I am mad as hell that politicians, who typically claim to belong to a religious organization which implies they uphold the commandment ‘Thou shalt not lie’, and who take an oath to support the Constitution which to my mind is as important as following the ten commandments, are not held responsible for misleading statements and outright lies.

Lies cannot always be covered by the ‘freedom of speech’ umbrella. Speech is not free; there are places in the world where people are imprisoned, and/or tortured, and sometimes killed for speaking out. And, in this country, speech does have some restrictions – such as in a courtroom where lying under oath is called perjury, which is a crime and is punishable.

I want the oath politicians take to include that they will never lie to ‘we the people’ and to admit the truth, when asked, about the veracity of a given ‘statement/claim’ – such as when they are questioned about questionable ads, pamphlets, etc.

Thanks for listening.
